My Story

I am Armandina Ramírez Tamez, a Mexican psychologist living in Amsterdam. My passion for psychology and well-being stems from my own experiences as an immigrant and my curiosity to understand how cultures influence human behavior.

At 17, I had the opportunity to do an exchange program in Germany for a year during high school. Without social media like we have today and living in a small town, I fully immersed myself in a culture very different from my own. This experience brought about a significant culture shock that made me question my identity and reflect on how cultures shape our lives. Upon returning to Mexico, I decided to study Psychology at the University of Monterrey, laying the foundation for my professional career.

My interest in exploring cultural differences led me to live in the Amazon Jungle in Peru, where I volunteered in a small community called Pebas, and even to Turkey, working for the exchange organization Youth for Understanding. These experiences enriched my perspective and reinforced my desire to understand and support people in multicultural contexts.

Later, I pursued a master’s degree in Psychology at Maastricht Unversity in the Netherlands. Since then, I have made my home in Amsterdam, where I am fortunate to work with an international and diverse community. I specialize in helping expatriates manage stress, adapt to new environments, and build fulfilling lives away from home.

Additionally, I am certified in Intuitive Eating, combining my knowledge in psychology with physical and emotional well-being. I have merged my professional expertise with my love for nature and outdoor activities, creating workshops and sessions that integrate mind and body. Through NutriMind, I offer therapy and resources in Spanish and English to support those seeking emotional balance and well-being in their international lives.

Professional Background

Career Path

My career as a psychologist began in 2009, when I volunteered with the student exchange organization Youth for Understanding. In this role, I served as a counselor and guide for Mexican students in international programs and foreign students participating in exchange programs in Mexico, promoting their cultural adaptation and emotional well-being. This experience strengthened my intercultural communication skills and gave me a deep understanding of the emotional needs of young people undergoing change and adaptation.

In 2011, I collaborated for two months with the University of Monterrey and the San José del Amazonas Vicariate in Peru, together with the Human Rights Defense Office. In the Pevas community, I worked with Amazonian adolescents on issues such as bullying, communication, vocational guidance, sexuality, and human rights. This experience allowed me to develop a special sensitivity to the social and cultural realities of vulnerable communities and strengthened my empathetic approach in my professional practice.
Later, I worked for a year in Turkey with Youth for Understanding, participating in the World Coloured Glasses program, designed to promote the acceptance of diversity and interculturality among young people from different cultures. This experience enriched my ability to appreciate the richness of cultural perspectives and reinforced my commitment to inclusion and diversity.
In the hospital setting, I completed an internship in the Adult and Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Christus Muguerza Hospital in Monterrey. Here, I developed my thesis on adherence to hemodialysis treatment, combining research and clinical practice in a highly specialized environment, which strengthened my ability to work in high-pressure and complex contexts.
After moving to Amsterdam, I worked at Kühler and Partners clinic, where I treated international patients in a multicultural setting. This experience helped me refine my ability to work with people from diverse cultural backgrounds and adapt my therapeutic approaches to their specific emotional needs.
Since starting my private practice, I have collaborated with organizations such as Justice and Peace, Stichting Urgent and Shelter City, providing therapy to human rights defenders. This work has allowed me to delve deeper into the management of post-traumatic stress and resilience while contributing to the emotional well-being of individuals facing great challenges in their fight for social justice.
Additionally, I participate in mental health workshops organized by the Mexican Talent Network and academic events with the Holland Alumni Network, strengthening my ability to create learning and emotional support spaces focused on the needs of the student and professional community in the Netherlands.
As a volunteer at Leger des Heils (Salvation Army), I support sex workers in Amsterdam’s Red Light District, which has taught me the importance of empathy, non-discrimination, and active listening in situations of high vulnerability.

A Little More About Me

My journey has taken me from the mountains of Monterrey, where I discovered my love for nature and outdoor sports, to the streets of Amsterdam, where I currently live. This contrast between landscapes and cultures has taught me the importance of resilience, adaptability, and the power of finding beauty in every stage of life.

In my free time, I enjoy exploring new bike routes, practicing sports such as dancing, swimming, and yoga, and caring for my two adorable cats. I am also passionate about music, especially the piano, which I play to reconnect with myself after intense days. My experiences as an expatriate and nature lover have inspired my therapeutic approach: I firmly believe that our connection with the environment, our history, and our emotions are key to building a full and authentic life.

Through Nutrimind, my mission is to share what I’ve learned on my own journey, helping others find balance, strength, and purpose, no matter where they are in the world or in their personal journey.
